The European Parliament held a discussion titled “Unlawful detention and sham trials of Armenian hostages, including high-ranking political representatives from Nagorno-Karabakh, by Azerbaijan.”
During the debate, German MEP Tomasz Froelich stated that both the European Union and Russia abandoned the Armenian people during Azerbaijan’s attack.
"Hundreds of thousands of Armenians were forced to flee, and some are now held hostage. Today, we are witnessing the systematic destruction of the cultural heritage of the world’s first Christian nation. Why do we hear so little about this?" he asked, reminding that some European politicians have been involved in corruption scandals.
Froelich emphasized that stability in the South Caucasus aligns with the EU’s interests.
"We need peaceful negotiations, and we must ensure proper treatment of Armenian hostages, the Armenian people, and Armenian cultural heritage," he stressed.
