The European Parliament held a discussion titled "Unlawful detention and sham trials of Armenian hostages, including high-ranking political representatives from Nagorno-Karabakh, by Azerbaijan." French MEP Nathalie Loiseau participated in the debate.
"Today, we are here to demand the release of the 23 Armenian hostages detained by Baku, who are facing an unfair trial. This ongoing trial can be compared to Stalinist trials," the MEP stated, emphasizing that the hostages are being deprived of fair treatment.
Loiseau addressed the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, thanking her for supporting Armenia through the European Peace Facility and for extending the mandate of the EU mission in Armenia. She mentioned her recent visit to Armenia and expressed hope that Kallas would also visit Yerevan soon.
"You will see a country that seeks peace, dreams of Europe, and whose neighbor is Azerbaijan—a state that continues to pose threats and remains one of Russia’s closest allies. I hope you will resist those calling for a balanced approach toward Yerevan and Baku. I also hope you will take into account that Azerbaijan is pursuing a policy of hostile interference against France, and this cannot go unanswered," the MEP concluded.
