Within the scope of our capabilities, we have served applications for citizenship from the population displaced from Karabakh with full capacity. Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan said this during a press conference.
“Up to this point, we already have more than 40,000 displaced persons who have acquired Armenian citizenship. More than 12,000 of them are minors,” he said.
Addressing criticism regarding the slowdown in the process of granting Armenian citizenship to those displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, Armen Ghazaryan noted that it is nonsense.
The acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs also said that the housing program has contributed to an increase in applications for Armenian citizenship. The number of applications is higher than the number of citizenships acquired.
Acting Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Nelli Davtyan said that the procedure for obtaining Armenian citizenship for those displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh has also been digitized, which has facilitated the process. She then presented the figures for the granting of Armenian citizenship.
“At this moment, we have 27,948 Armenian citizenships granted to persons displaced from Karabakh, of which 8,676 is the figure for this year,” she said.
