Merz and Trump had a phone call after weeks of tensions between Berlin and Washington.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described the conversation as “good.”
In a statement, Merz emphasized:
“We are united: Iran must now come to the negotiating table. It must open the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran must not possess nuclear weapons.”
Besides Iran, the leaders also discussed possible ways to end the war in Ukraine and coordination ahead of the upcoming NATO summit in Turkey.
