Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will officially start discussions on text of peace treaty in two days: Pashinyan

Are we moving along the path of separating Armenia-Azerbaijan, Artsakh-Azerbaijan processes? In response to this question, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that they are in constant communication with the President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), they discussed and analyzed this issue a lot, and came to the conclusion that this is the objectively correct course.

"It is very difficult for me, it has always been difficult. For the people of Artsakh, every time a negotiation phase begins, tension arises: "a deal is being made behind our backs", although we have said that we will never do anything behind Artsakh's back. Yes, sometimes Azerbaijan says that we do not want to discuss the Artsakh issue with Armenia, and this is not a new position for Azerbaijan. We also say: very well, if there is that tension, discuss with Karabakh, and it seems that this approach can be understandable for Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that what he is saying are views and approaches that should go through preliminary discussions and be finalized.

“I am recording for myself and everyone else that in two days the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan will officially start discussions on the text of the peace treaty, which during the negotiations and contacts should still receive some text, and if it is acceptable, we will sign it,” he said.

When asked whether the authorities of Azerbaijan agreed to negotiate with Armenia and Artsakh separately, Nikol Pashinyan said that he did not want to touch upon the confidential parts of the negotiations.

“We will all see it soon. But I also want to make a point that there has always been the biggest problem with the negotiation content. There are nuances, formulations and points that Azerbaijan interprets the same situation in its own way, Armenia in its own way. Our task is to make the comments identical,” said the Prime Minister.
