Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan on Wednesday did not rule out the possibility of discussing with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Sahiba Gafarova, expanded-format talks between parliamentarians of both countries.
"We constantly try to use all international platforms for dialogue, and my counterpart from Azerbaijan is also positively inclined toward this approach to communication,” he said during a press briefing during an event on Human Rights Day when asked about the possibility of contacts between legislators from both countries.
"Although there are no talks yet, I assume that further meetings will take place between me and the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference to be held in Istanbul. We will also continue to discuss the idea of having expanded-format meetings between our Members of Parliament, independently of any international context, based solely on our own decision," Simonyan said.
Simonyan and Gafarova met within the framework of the 151st Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva in October 2025.
