Armenian Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan met in Belgium with EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.
Arpine Sargsyan, expressing gratitude to Magnus Brunner for his leadership and constructive engagement in the EU visa liberalization process, emphasized that Armenia is committed to implementing the benchmarks of the Action Plan with quality and proper procedures, the ministry said in a press release.
Arpine Sargsyan highlighted that the first mission to assess the implementation of the Action Plan in Armenia by the EU is taking place. Discussions will focus on legal and policy-related issues concerning the achievement of the benchmarks.
The Minister also addressed several actions outlined in the Action Plan, specifically presenting tangible steps in areas such as the introduction of biometric systems, universal health insurance, and other initiatives.
Minister Sargsyan, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with EU institutions like Frontex and Europol, noted that a candidate for liaison officer will soon be presented to Europol.
Commissioner Brunner thanked Minister Sargsyan for Armenia’s participation in Global Alliance to Counter Migrant Smuggling and for delivering an address at the international conference.
The Commissioner also thanked the Minister for ensuring constructive dialogue within the framework of visa liberalization as the country's chief negotiator.
Details were discussed regarding Magnus Brunner's visit to Armenia in March 2026. Emphasizing the importance of constructive cooperation, Magnus Brunner said he was looking forward to the visit.
Additionally, issues of mutual interest were discussed, underscoring the commitment to continue effective cooperation on a bilateral basis.
