The Armenian Foreign Ministry has denied the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s claims that the new Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership ‘directly contradicts’ the peace process between Yerevan and Baku.
Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan, in comments to Armenpress, said that the Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership actually contributes to efforts aimed at consolidating peace in the region.
“Let us emphasize that the Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership reflects the substance of the bilateral and deepening partnership between Armenia and the European Union, based on shared values and mutual interests. It reflects not only the European aspirations of the citizens of Armenia, but also the EU’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, democracy, and socio-economic resilience.
It is evident that this, in itself, contributes to efforts aimed at further consolidating peace in the region.I would add that the Strategic Agenda for the EU-Armenia Partnership —on which bilateral Armenia–EU negotiations, in principle, had essentially been concluded as early as June—also includes our shared vision for the future, reflecting our joint commitment to strengthening stability, prosperity, and peace in the region.
It is noteworthy that in the joint statement adopted following the meeting of the Armenia–EU Partnership Council held on the same day, the EU, in addition to the support it has expressed on previous occasions, welcomed the historic milestone achieved between Armenia and Azerbaijan during the Peace Summit held this August in Washington, including the initialing of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The EU reaffirmed its strong support for the further consolidation and institutionalization of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Badalyan said.
