During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the statement of ‘Civil Contract’ faction MP Sargis Khandanyan that even after the Brussels meeting, President of the European Council Charles Michel's statement did not mention Azerbaijan's 5 points for a peace treaty. However, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that their 5 principles will play a key role in the peace talks.
“It may be a little inaccurate, not successful, and incomprehensibly formulated, but in reality the point is that the principles proposed by Armenia and Azerbaijan should become the common pillars of the peace treaty. There is an important debate in the international community that has reached Armenia. There is a question whether the agenda of peace or the issue of normalization of relations should solve the Nagorno-Karabakh problem too, or, nevertheless, it should be separated and considered as a separate issue. Azerbaijan says no territorial claims to each other, we say it is acceptable, because for us the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is never a territorial issue, but an issue of right. The statement of the European Council President refers to the right apparently to emphasize that context,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
The Prime Minister said that they are discussing with other political circles, the Artsakh authorities, which tactical approach to this crossroads is better.
"I have my position on that issue, but I think we will become more specific after discussions with a wider circle. Of course, Artsakh's position will be very important,” Pashinyan said.
Asked when the peace talks will start, the Prime Minister said that the talks on the format and parameters are underway, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries are working with each other.
