In the coming days, we will convey to our U.S. partners our observations regarding the draft agreement related to TRIPP. The draft agreement will be based on the implementation framework approved by the governments of the two countries, which in turn is based on the August 8 declaration. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this during the National Assembly–Government question-and-answer session, also informing that the technical and economic assessment of the TRIPP project has begun.
According to Pashinyan, cooperation in the field of nuclear energy is also continuing. There is dialogue with several partners in this regard, and a decision will be made in favor of the project that best corresponds to Armenia’s interests.
The next important issue is related to border management. Pashinyan informed that he held a working discussion today with the Minister of Internal Affairs, and a task has been set that from the moment biometric passports become operational in Armenia — which is planned for the autumn of 2027 — contactless passage routes will begin operating at the airport and at all checkpoints. This means that citizens holding biometric passports will be able to board aircraft, exit, or cross the border using their passports without contact.
“What is needed for that? For that, it was necessary for the United States, which possesses those technologies, to share those technologies with us.
Yesterday, we discussed this topic with the U.S. Vice President, and I received assurances from our partners that those technologies will be shared with Armenia.
I also thank the U.S. Vice President for that. Even before that, I thank the U.S. President, with whom on August 8 in Washington we signed a memorandum of intent on the development of the capacities of the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ project, which emphasized support for border management,” he said, noting that this concerns the provision of technical means that are ultra-modern and precise, and expressing hope that by the end of the year the Armenian side will have them.
