The process that led to this visit began with the Prague meeting in 2022. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this at a meeting with representatives of the local Armenian community in Istanbul.
According to him, unfortunately, our region remains quite tense, and one of the main goals of such visits and contacts is to discuss what we can do to make the region more stable, more peaceful and secure.
“Of course, this is the most important agenda of contacts in this context. The fact that we are talking about the normalization of relations, the establishment of diplomatic relations, the possible resumption of transport infrastructure, political dialogue, all of these are ultimately factors that bring security,” the Prime Minister noted.
According to him, the positions of Armenia and Turkey on a number of regional issues are quite close.
“It has not happened often, but now it is noticeable that we have quite similar perceptions on a number of issues. We are talking about issues on the international agenda. And this is a factor that has a certain impact on the atmosphere and mood of relations," Pashinyan noted, emphasizing that the events taking place in Iran in the region are very disturbing.
