Taking into account the capacity of the natural gas pipeline and the construction of a new 400-kilovolt power transmission line, Armenia and Iran can expand their “gas for electricity” program and increase the amount of mutual supplies. Armenia’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan told this to reporters on Wednesday.
According to him, Iran needs additional electricity, while Armenia is interested in increasing natural gas supplies.
“The parties have reached an agreement on the creation of a working group that will study in detail the possibilities of expanding the deal, as well as set clear timeframes for its implementation,” Khudatyan said.
The minister added that this process is a current work agenda and is not related to fears of a rise in the price of Russian natural gas being supplied to Armenia or the search for a replacement source for the country.
