Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told a news conference that he would resign by the end of September to be able to take part in the campaign for the October 25 election campaign.
Responding to a question from N1, Vucic said that he would resign his post after returning from the United States. “I will resign right after I return from New York. That will be on September 25 or 26, that’s that,” Vucic said.
Vucic said the news conference, called to announce higher state salaries and pensions, was not part of the election campaign. “There are no promises here, this is what is going to happen tomorrow. I said it earlier,” he said. He pledged higher pensions and state salaries as of December 1 along with once-off payments to pensioners and all adult citizens.
He said he informed the Anti-Corruption Agency that he would stage the news conference, adding that he is obliged to announce all of his activities beforehand under what he called stupid laws. “I even had to report a military exercise that we planned 6-7 months ago,” he added.
