Armenia is a modest, small country, and we cannot have such ambitious intentions or make such ambitious statements. It would neither be appropriate nor wise for us to think about becoming involved in resolving relations between major powers. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made this statement during a briefing in response to a question about whether Armenia could assume a mediating role between the United States and Iran to help ease tensions.
Addressing the TRIPP project, which the journalist suggested is perceived by Iran as a potential threat, Pashinyan stressed that Armenia is ready to answer all questions of concern in order to eliminate tensions, as TRIPP is a major economic infrastructure project that will benefit both Armenia and Iran. As a result of the project, a Persian Gulf–Black Sea railway connection will also be established through the territories of Iran, Azerbaijan, Nakhchivan, Armenia, and Georgia.
“This is one of the directions that refutes the criticism that the implementation of this project excludes any country in the region. On the contrary, it is an inclusive project, and, of course, regional instability could become an obstacle to its implementation.
I hope stability will be restored as soon as possible so that we can implement all constructive projects,” he said.
