The third ministerial meeting in the “3+3” format on the South Caucasus is currently being prepared, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference after talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan.
Moscow is in favor of holding the next two meetings in Baku and Yerevan, the Russian Foreign Minister said.
“We talked about where the third meeting in the “3+3″ format could be convened. I believe that the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which want to host this event, can very well agree among themselves, and we are ready to facilitate this. We are in favor of holding the next two events in the capitals of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the minister said.
The initiative for a six-party cooperation format on the South Caucasus was put forward at the end of 2020 by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was later called “3+3.” Russia and Iran welcomed the idea, and Armenia also joined the format. Georgia said it did not plan to participate in the initiative.
