Reuters/CCTV. Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people and is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory instead of a political bargaining chip, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun in Beijing on Thursday.
Guo made the comments at a regular press briefing in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's proposal to "clean out" and take over the war-torn Palestinian enclave, which has met with widespread international condemnation.
"Gaza is the Gaza of Palestinians and is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory. It is not a bargaining chip to strike political deals, nor should it become a target of the law of the jungle. Gaza has already been ravaged by the flames of war and reduced to ruins, with suffering everywhere," Guo said.
"The international community, particularly major powers, should join hands to provide badly-needed humanitarian aid and contribute to Gaza's reconstruction efforts, rather than adding insult to the injury," said the spokesman.
"China firmly supports the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, and always believes that 'the Palestinians governing Palestine' is an essential principle for post-war governance in Gaza. We oppose any forced displacement of Gaza's population," he stressed.
"China stands ready to work with the international community for a fair political settlement of the Palestinian question, with the two-state solution as the fundamental path. That is, the establishment of an independent state of Palestine that enjoys full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital," Guo said.
