As a continuation of the series of events dedicated to the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, the UNDP Gender Equality Portfolio team organized a meeting-discussion through the Virtual Community of Practice platform on the topic of "Women in Diplomacy". The guest speaker was Ani Badalyan, the RA MFA Spokesperson. More than 40 women and youth UNDP partners from various regions of Armenia joined the meeting-discussion and actively contributed to the process.
During the meeting, the following topics were discussed: the role of women in diplomacy throughout history, the recorded changes and progress, the representation of women in the diplomatic system of the Republic of Armenia, as well as individual episodes of the diplomatic service of the MFA Spokesperson, who is the youngest female spokesperson so far.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide a platform for the UNDP women and youth partners from remote communities of the regions of Armenia to participate online in the events dedicated to the International Day of Women Diplomats and to jointly appreciate the continuous dedicated work of Armenian women diplomats both in their diplomatic service and in the negotiation and peace processes.
The meeting was organized within the framework of UNDP’s two projects: “Women in Politics, Public Administration and Civil Society” funded by the UK Good Governance Fund and “Women and Youth for Innovative Local Development” funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. Both projects are implemented in partnership with the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
