Parliament Speaker Papuashvili: in the event of a conflict with Russia, Georgia will be left alone

In the event of a conflict with Russia, Georgia will be left alone, no one will fight for it, as well as for Ukraine, said the speaker of the Georgian parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

He expressed this opinion in an interview with the Georgian newspaper "Kviris Palitra".

Papuashvili thus explained why Georgia does not join the anti-Russian sanctions.

"We look at Ukraine and see that no one is fighting next to the Ukrainian people or instead of them. The maximum that the West can do is to supply weapons. They supply weapons, but only the blood of Ukrainians is shed on Ukrainian soil," TASS quoted the politician as saying.

He recalled that after the armed conflict of 2008, the West did not impose sanctions against Russia, but a reset policy with Moscow was announced, and Georgia was banned from buying weapons.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili earlier recalled that open borders with Russia are important for the republic, including for economic reasons.
