Ukraine and Moldova agreed to cooperate in air defense and improve border control: Denys Shmyhal

On December 6, in Kyiv, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Natalia Gavrilița. The parties discussed joint steps towards European integration, cooperation in energy, logistics, and trade and economic partnership.

“The full-scale war has radically changed the situation in the region. Its consequences are felt every day throughout Europe. No one feels safe. In particular, yesterday, during another massive attack, the Moldovan energy system experienced enormous overloads. This will be repeated again and again. Until we overcome the enemy, liberate Ukrainian lands and make Russia answer for its crimes,” Denys Shmyhal emphasized.

Following the meeting, the Heads of Government of Ukraine and Moldova signed a joint statement and reached a number of important agreements.

In particular, Ukraine and Moldova will continue to remove administrative and procedural barriers for the freer movement of people and goods between the two countries. It is also expected that by mid-2023 an agreement on construction of a road bridge across the Dniester on the common border will be concluded.

“We will intensify the format of dialogue in the Ukraine-Moldova-Romania triangle. To do this, in 2023 we will hold a meeting of the heads of government of the three states. We are creating a bilateral working group to coordinate the integration of Ukraine and Moldova into the EU. We are ready to provide our Moldovan partners with comprehensive expert support for Moldova to successfully implement the recommendations of the European Commission,” Denys Shmyhal said.

In addition, Ukraine and Moldova agreed to cooperate in air defense, improve border control and maintain cooperation and dialogue on peace and security in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.
