The Russian energy company Rosatom has accused the US government of not issuing visas to its representatives, and those of the federal service of the Rostejnadzor sector, in order to travel to the United States to attend a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
As reported by Rosatom on its Telegram channel, the visa applications “were submitted in advance in accordance with the established procedure” and, to date, “none of the members of the Russian delegation have received a US visa.”
In this context, the Rosatom representatives consider that they have reason to believe that the United States has “blocked Russia’s participation” in the IAEA meeting, which, they say, constitutes a lack of respect from Washington, not only to Russia, but to the IAEA itself.
“In accordance with the agreement between the IAEA and the host State of the event under the auspices of the agency, said State is obliged to provide the representatives of the IAEA member countries with the opportunity to participate in the event that takes place in their territory”, they have pointed out from Rosatom.
This conflict between Russia and the United States is not the first time that it has happened, since Moscow has repeatedly warned that Washington does not issue visas to its representatives before the United Nations, whose headquarters are also in US territory.
The capital of the United States, Washington, hosts the fifth edition of the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Power in the 21st Century of the IAEA from October 26 to 28.
