Gulf Arab states on Wednesday declared they would not participate in sanctions against Russia and Belarus, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov after a meeting with member states of Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sergei Lavrov, who arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, met with foreign ministers from the GCC states on Wednesday.
Lavrov's visit is widely seen as an attempt to seek support from Gulf Arab states for Russia in the conflict with Ukraine.
During the meeting, Gulf officials said they would not take part in sanctions against Russia and Belarus.
Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said during the talks that the Gulf states shared the same position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and are very concerned about the impact of the conflict on world food security.
