Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries (UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, US, France, and Japan) will hold three-day talks on the situation around Ukraine and new anti-Russian sanctions. Germany, which presides over the G7 this year, invited the foreign ministers to the Wangels municipality, located in the north of the country on the Baltic Sea.
The German Federal Foreign Office said earlier that the discussion will focus on the situation in Ukraine and its implications for energy and food security. The G7 leaders also announced their intention to impose new sanctions against Russia, as well as take a number of other measures to increase economic pressure on it. The G7 foreign ministers may specify some of the decisions reached by the leaders of their countries and propose new anti-Russian measures.
During her visit to Kyiv on Tuesday, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock invited her Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba to take part in the meeting. She said that the Ukrainian minister accepted her invitation.
Foreign ministers will start arriving on Thursday, but the main talks will be held on Friday.
