Nazeli Baghdasaryan, Deputy of “My Step” faction asked Ara Ayvazyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, to comment on the problematic statements made in the recent interview with the President of Azerbaijan, particularly, about the captives. She asked the minister during the NA-Government Q&A session.
Ara Ayvazyan said that an inter-department commission, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan, is set up, and everyone does their job in their field.
The Minister reminded that he himself, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Spokeswoman expressed their opinion on the statements of the Azerbaijani President. He noted that politicizing this crucial humanitarian issue is unacceptable. According to Ayvazyan, it is confirmed by various representatives in the international community as well.
He said that the leaders of different countries and international organizations are already increasing the international pressure on Azerbaijan on this issue, adding that yesterday the Italian parliament also adopted a resolution calling on Azerbaijan to immediately resolve this important humanitarian issue.
Referring to the steps taken to return the captives, Ayvazyan said that Russia has a significant role in the region and direct contacts take place on this issue via various channels through President Putin, Foreign Minister Lavrov and Minister of Defense Shoigu.
“The Russian side is consistently raising this issue with the Azerbaijani leadership. This question has had a special emphasis in my conversations at the level of ambassadors and foreign ministers of the Minsk Group co-chair countries. This issue is of a primary importance during my phone conversations with foreign partners, we work in different directions in international organizations, and if you follow the reactions, it is obvious that this issue is becoming really problematic for Azerbaijan,” said the Minister.
