On November 25, the RA Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan had a phone conversation with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.
The UN Secretary General congratulated Ara Ayvazyan on assuming the post of RA Foreign Minister and wished him success in responsible mission.
Minister Ayvazyan and UN Secretary General Guterres discussed the humanitarian situation in Artsakh as a result of the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression and its consequences for the region. A reference was made to the created humanitarian crisis, the steps taken to address it. In this regard, Minister Ayvazyan especially emphasized the importance of the involvement of international structures, first of all the relevant UN bodies.
The RA Foreign Minister also stressed the provision of conditions for the return of the displaced Artsakh Armenians to their homeland, the necessity of steps aimed at the protection of their rights. Ayvazyan provided Guterres with comprehensive information on torture and other acts of violence against prisoners of war and civilians under Azerbaijani control.
Both sides stressed the need for strict observance of international humanitarian law and human rights norms, and respect for the historical and cultural heritage of Artsakh.
