“Ancient City, New Perspectives” was the title slogan for the “Yerevan - 2025” first international conference discussing the problems and development prospects of Yerevan.
Delegates, experts of international bodies were invited to Yerevan by the city authorities to participate in discussion. The cultural and touristic resources, urban development and urban environment, and transportation system related issues were chosen as the priority prospects for the capital’s development.
The representatives of NGOs concerned with the capital problems were encouraged by “Yerevan – 2025.” The environmental activists believe the City Hall should continue the environmental projects from the recent years, along with the urban development projects.
People with disabilities simply ignored by the Soviet standards have high expectations from the conference now. The “Unison” organization for the disabled says the cooperation with people with disabilities has been activated for the last two years.
The disabled now have more hope after sound traffic lights and curb cuts appeared as the latest novelties in city. Now they expect the new special buses promised by the mayor.
