Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has conveyed condolences to French President Emmanuel Macron on the passing of former Prime Minister Édouard Balladur.
Balladur served as Prime Minister of France from 1993 until 1995 under President François Mitterrand.
“Dear Mr. President, dear Emmanuel, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of former French Prime Minister Édouard Balladur,” Pashinyan said in the letter published by his office.
“Édouard Balladur was one of the prominent statesmen and politicians of France’s modern history. Throughout his long career, he held high state positions, including serving as Prime Minister of France during an important period for the country, contributing to the development of France’s political and economic life.
In Armenia, we also remember with particular sentiment Édouard Balladur’s Armenian roots, which connected the story of his life with the Armenian people.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the people of Armenia, I extend my deepest condolences and solidarity to you, the friendly people of France, as well as to the family and loved ones of the deceased, wishing them strength during this difficult time of loss.”
