Reuters. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (August 31) that his country backed every peace effort to end the war in Ukraine.
"We need to move from an endless war to the end of the war, to the cessation of hostilities. And this is precisely the direction in which we must move. This is extremely important for all of humanity", Modi said.
Modi and Putin met in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek as part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. The SCO is a regional bloc that includes Russia, China, India, Iran, Pakistan and Central Asian countries. The SCO leader's summit in Kyrgyzstan marks the 25th anniversary of the organisation.
