A number of Western countries have begun evacuating their embassy personnel and citizens from Iran amid a worsening situation in the country.
The United States has urged its citizens to “leave Iran immediately” against the backdrop of mass protests in the country and possible strikes by Washington. The White House advised Americans, if necessary, to seek safe locations and suggested considering leaving Iran by land through the territory of Armenia or Turkey.
Earlier, the Canadian government issued a similar call and guidance to its citizens currently in Iran.
According to sources cited by AFP, France has also evacuated its embassy staff from Iran due to the rapid escalation of the situation. Nevertheless, part of the diplomatic mission remains in Tehran to assist citizens.
Sweden has advised its citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran, and those already in the country to leave as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Russian citizens to observe precautionary measures.
Tehran, in turn, has expressed concern over the security of the British Embassy following attacks on Iran’s Embassy in London.
