Turkish media have reported that, within the framework of the Armenia–Turkey normalization process, work on the Turkish side toward opening border checkpoints has accelerated. In particular, technical assessments and preparatory measures have begun at the 'Alican' border checkpoint.
It is noted that the project envisages additional construction on the Alican road, which will improve connectivity toward Iğdır and increase regional trade and logistics opportunities. On-site assessments were carried out by Iğdır Governor Ercan Turan, Head of the Migration Service Hüseyin Kökre, Acting Director General of Logistics at Turkey’s Ministry of Defense, Major General Ahmet Hamdi Ataç, and representatives of a number of state institutions.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that in early 2026, within the framework of the normalization of Armenia–Turkey relations, a number of symbolic steps are planned.
