Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, along with a group of citizens, visited the delimited section of the border with Azerbaijan in the village of Kirants in the Tavush region. Pashinyan made the announcement on Facebook, also publishing a video.
The Prime Minister noted that the purpose of the visit was to present the concept of ensuring Armenia’s security, which the government follows.
“If the number one concept of security is the army, the second is the army, the third is the army, and the fourth is the army, then security does not exist. We must ensure that the tools for guaranteeing security are diverse. This is an additional concept of ensuring security and our understanding of the peace agenda. I can confidently say that Kirants is one of the safest villages in Armenia.
This wall is a tool for ensuring our security,” Pashinyan said, referring to the wall built in the Kirants area following the delimitation.
He stressed that legitimacy is also an important condition for ensuring security.
“In 2022, we ourselves first recognized the territorial integrity of Armenia. When the delimitation process was taking place, many people said that the village of Kirants would be emptied, that the Kirants school was only 50 meters from the border, and that it would be impossible to ensure the safety of the children.”
Pashinyan stated that the school has been operating for a year now and that no incidents have occurred either in the school or in the village of Kirants.
PM Pashinyan also announced that the border guards of Armenia and Azerbaijan serving in the area have agreed to carry out their service without magazines on their rifles, helmets and bulletproof vests.
