Construction of the 'Trump Route' is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has announced.
“By the end of this year, we should have all the details finalized on paper. We plan to reach an agreement in the first half of 2026 and begin construction work in the second half. This is the plan,” the Prime Minister said, noting that such projects often delay in terms.
According to Pashinyan, the railway will run along the route that existed during the Soviet era, “because it is not realistic to build a railway in another section.” He added that the gas pipeline and power lines will pass through the section north of the railway.
Pashinyan reaffirmed that the process is based on the principles enshrined in the Washington Declaration: territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity, and the inviolability of borders.
The Washington Declaration, signed on August 8, defines that the Republic of Armenia will work with the United States of America and mutually determined third parties to establish a framework for the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) connectivity project.
The Prime Minister emphasized that TRIPP is one of the components of the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace initiative. The project is also intended to ensure connectivity between the main part of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
