The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has adopted a resolution concerning Georgia. The draft of the resolution, titled “Uphold democracy and the rule of law in Georgia,” was put to a vote during today’s plenary session.
The resolution received backing from 68 out of 77 delegates. Seven delegates voted against it, while two abstained.
Before the vote, several amendments were considered and incorporated into the document.
Notably, one such amendment expressed concern over reports that “former members of the Georgian delegation to the Assembly risk criminal prosecution for their votes or activities as members of the delegation. The Assembly reiterates that its members cannot be prosecuted for words spoken or votes cast by them in the exercise of their functions. The Assembly calls on member States to exert all efforts necessary to prevent any such development from taking place.”
The remaining paragraphs of the resolution remained unchanged.
