Reuters. King Charles emphasised the "enduring bond" and "unshakeable trust" between the United States and Britain during a banquet speech held for President Donald Trump on Wednesday (September 17) capping a day of pageantry during the president's second state visit.
The king's speech touched on security in Europe, environmental concerns and the continuation of the "special relationship" between the two countries. He also praised Trump's "commitment to finding solutions to some of the world's most intractable conflict".
Charles and Trump clinked glasses in a traditional gesture of goodwill.
Downing Street hopes to harness the positive tone of the visit to deepen economic ties, attract billions in investment, discuss tariffs, and press Trump on Ukraine and Israel.
Polls show Trump is widely unpopular in Britain and Starmer, faced with plummeting poll ratings of his own and economic woes, will need to show that his royal trump card can reap benefits.
