Following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the White House reported.
The call also included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff, and representatives from other European countries.
Zelensky described the discussion as “substantive,” noting that it lasted over an hour and a half.
“Ukraine reaffirms its readiness to make every effort to achieve peace. President Trump briefed us on his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points discussed. It is important that U.S. influence affects the course of events. We support President Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia. Ukraine emphasizes that key issues can be discussed at the leaders’ level, and the trilateral format is suitable for this,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President added that he will meet with President Trump in Washington on Monday to discuss all details related to ending the war.
It was also reported that EU ambassadors will hold an extraordinary online session today to exchange views on the situation in Ukraine.
