On October 6, 2022, I, as the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, recognized the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, and, frankly speaking, I believe that I not only acted correctly, but also acted incorrectly and that it was due to a wrong assessment of the situation that I did not do it sooner. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia stated this during a press conference, referring to the journalist’s reminder that Nikol Pashinyan had stated that he did not have a mandate to negotiate on the Karabakh issue and that he recognized Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.
“As for the mandate, yes, I have said it and have said it in agreement with the representatives of Karabakh. And that was the correct position both politically, legally, and morally, but another thing is that from the moment I became Prime Minister, I was so involved in that process that, in fact, there was no way out of that situation.
There was no visible possibility of getting out of the situation, especially in the conditions when in April 2018, the candidate for Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan made հis famous statement that the negotiation process does not inspire optimism, the negotiation process is at a standstill, and we should no longer hope that Azerbaijan will abandon the formula of resolving the issue through war," he said.
