Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan says there is no basis for escalation of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
We have no reason to attack Azerbaijan, because we have recognized each other’s territorial integrity on the basis of the Alma-Ata Declaration, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a question-and-answer session at the Parliament.
“We have even agreed on the Regulation on the joint activity of the border commissions and must start a delimitation of the next section of the border in the near future,” Pashinyan said.
He ruled out any action on the part of the Republic of Armenia that would aim at escalating the situation in the region.
“You know that the question of the attacks against the Republics of Armenia in 2021 and 2022 are on our domestic agenda, more than 200 sq km of our land is occupied. But we have also announced that there is no question of solving the issue of these occupied territories in a military way on our agenda. Why? Because, as I already said, the delimitation process provides an opportunity to address and solve all these issues through negotiations on a legal basis,” Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister reiterated Armenia’s commitment to the peace agenda. “We recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all neighbors, and I do hope we will intensify the work on the draft peace treaty. More than 90 percent of the wok has been completed, and we need to make the last effort and sign the deal,” the Prime Minister noted.
“We have also proposed a very realistic solution regarding the unblocking of regional communications,” Nikol Pashinyan said, emphasizing that there is no basis for escalation of Armenian-Azerbaijan relations.
