What did the Granada meeting give to Armenia? A Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed this question during the "Interview" program public of Public TV of Armenia.
"Granada gave us two very important statements, the first was a quadripartite statement by Macron, Scholz, Michel and myself, and the second was our bilateral statement with Ursula von der Leyen. With this, it was recorded, which, I don't want to say was unprecedented, but it is very important, that there is a consensus regarding the deepening of Armenia's relations with the EU. In both statements, it was recorded what should be the pillars of peace in the region from the EU and our point of view, one of them is the mutual recognition of territorial integrity, the second is that the delimitation process should take place on the basis of the Alma Ata declaration, also in accordance with the latest USSR maps transferred to the parties. Thirdly, the unblocking of communications in the region must take place under the full protection of the sovereignty of countries, jurisdiction, equality and reciprocity".
Pashinyan highlighted the fact that Azerbaijan's use of force against Nagorno-Karabakh, the forced displacement of the Nagorno-Karabakh people, was condemned, and the readiness of the EU and the US to support Armenia in managing the humanitarian situation was noted.
"It was recorded that the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh should have the right to return to Nagorno-Karabakh without preconditions, and this should be protected, and that the EU is ready to deepen relations with Armenia as much as Armenia wants. The drawback, the gap is that the statement, particularly the first one, is quadrilateral, not pentalateral, that is, if it was originally intended to be pentalateral, the lack of Azerbaijan's signature is one of the disadvantages, if there was Azerbaijan's signature, I would say that the possibility that we will sign a peace treaty by the end of the year is above 70 percent," he said.
There was a question why was the issue of captives, both of 2020 and NK leaders, not raised at that meeting? In response, the Prime Minister noted that the statement referred to the topic of prisoners, it called to the parties to release the prisoners.
