Turkish historian, sociologist, genocide scholar, professor of Clark University, USA, Taner Akçam, referred to the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan’s illegal blockade of Lachin Corridor.
“It is sad that the world community, led by Russia, is silent about these events and is content only to watch. My hope is that the international community will wake up from its deep sleep and, exerting pressure on Azerbaijan, will become a mediator for a decision that will guarantee the basic rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. The process of protecting human rights and preventing injustice is not an umbrella that opens after everything is over. Preventing ethnic cleansing or genocide is not about shedding crocodile tears after horrific events. If there is a desire to prevent major tragedies, more active intervention is needed.
I hope that the situation will be resolved as a result of necessary international pressure and bilateral meetings. Our heart, our soul is with the people of Karabakh, who are facing serious danger,” he said.
