There are elections in the US Congress, presidential elections in 2024, the outcome of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis is not known. How can these geopolitical developments affect the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations? In an interview with the Public Television Company, in response to this question, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated:
“It is not talked about. However, for example, the political arrangement that in 2020 was in the US at the moment, of course it had a very concrete impact on the situation in our region. President Trump's administration seemed to lean more on the US, as they call it, isolationist’ tradition in the field of foreign policy, when he believed that the US should be more concerned with its domestic issues than its foreign affairs. A tradition that dominated in the 19th and early 20th centuries in the American tradition.
Of course, these influences exist, they are very specific, but we are happy that the US is also involved in the region. We hope that regardless of domestic political developments, or the domestic political developments will be such that US involvement will not decrease.”
