Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, answering the questions of the Public TV Company, referred to the aggressive statements of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and answered the question whether Baku's failure to fulfill the agreements is a prelude to discrediting the mediation efforts and starting a new war.
“I think and this is what I am trying to do in practice, that it is very important to first understand the content on which Azerbaijan is trying to build a precondition for a new escalation. And the best way to do that, I think, is to single out and clarify the agreements the agreements that Azerbaijan is trying to accuse us of not fulfilling.
We are talking about the written agreements. Even if there can be oral discussions, they should be expressed in one way or another in the texts that are published as a result of the high-level discussions,” said Pashinyan.
Pashinyan reminded that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan issued a new statement and emphasized its content.
“In that statement, we are accused of aborting the case of establishing a connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. Despite the fact that the President of Azerbaijan constantly talks about the promised corridor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not use the word ‘corridor’ for a very simple reason, because the addressee of the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the international community. The international community not only follows verbal statements, but also tries to go back and see what documents were signed and what it means.
In this regard, I think it is important to take stock of what is conditioned, what is written in the texts. This is the way we should go, so that our public and the international community, if necessary, also the public of Azerbaijan, are correctly presented what the agreements are and who is not actually fulfilling them. The purpose of this is not to create a war of words and a new escalation. The purpose of this is to inventory and implement the arrangements,” said the Prime Minister.
Pashinyan emphasized that today there are no obstacles to establish a transport connection between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhijevan. The only obstacle is the position of the Azerbaijani Government.
“We have said that this road can be open at any time,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
