Kyiv does not need American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, better known as Warthog ("Warthog"), the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense would like to get F-16 fighters. This statement was made by Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Sak, Top War reports.
In the West, they have not even made a decision on the possible transfer or sale of Western-made combat aircraft to Ukraine, and in Kyiv they have already begun to declare what is needed and what is not needed. For example, the American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft, which were only allowed to be transferred to Ukraine in the United States, have already been called “old” and unnecessary in Kyiv. According to the adviser to the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry Sak, Kyiv needs "more modern" aircraft.
Reznikov's adviser explained his position by the fact that the Warthogs will not close the airspace over Ukraine and will not stop Russian bombers and missiles, they will be shot down by Russian fighters. But the "more modern" F-16s suit Kyiv quite well, especially since a number of countries that are allies of Ukraine already use these fighters, so there should be no problems with spare parts and maintenance.
Earlier, the United States did not rule out that Ukraine could receive American A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft in the future if the US Air Force refuses to operate them and decommissions them. This option of helping Kyiv was not ruled out by US Air Force Secretary Frank Candell. However, he stressed that such an option is unlikely, for Ukraine the Americans have other weapons, including "older US systems."
