The duty of the Germans is to preserve the memory of the Second World War, President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Friday, June 18, Известия reports.

The memory of this hell, the absolute hostility and inhumanity of the other - this memory remains for us, Germans, a duty and a warning to the whole world,” he stressed at the opening ceremony of the exhibition in Berlin “The scale of one crime. The war of Nazi Germany against the USSR was barbaric, Steinmeier is sure. At the same time, modern Germans do not know enough about the horrors of war, the president said.
The event takes place at the German-Russian Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the attack of Nazi Germany on the USSR. In addition to the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, the opening ceremony is attended by the ambassadors of the countries that were part of the USSR, deputies of the Bundestag, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, and other guests.
