US President Donald Trump has approved a plan to strike Iran and ordered it to be carried out today while in Turkey for a NATO summit, a US official told Axios, the latter reports.
Trump met in Ankara with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who were flying with him on board Air Force One, as well as with chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, who was already at the NATO summit venue, and several other officials.
The US official said it was not yet clear how long the strikes would last. They will receive an assessment of the results of the strikes and make decisions later, the official added.
