The parliamentary elections in Armenia were held in an atmosphere of unprecedented pressure on the opposition and interference from the West, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
Also, she noted that Russia intends to build its policy towards Armenia by taking into account the real actions by the Armenian leadership. Sunday’s election results make it clear that support for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party has significantly decreased in Armenia. Zakharova stated that Moscow has always been and will be interested in a strong and truly sovereign Armenia.
In her opinion, the elections held in Armenia have clearly shown that Armenian society is extremely polarized. There is a widespread demand in Armenian society for the development of ties with Russia and Armenia's further membership in the EAEU.
Zakharova added that the Armenian people are fraternal to Russia, and the latter wishes them peace and prosperity.
