For a long-term settlement of the conflict, Kiev must return to the foundations of statehood in the early 1990s. This was announced on May 25 by the Director of the Second Department of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Russian Foreign Ministry Alexey Polishchuk.
"A truly comprehensive, just and sustainable settlement is possible only by eradicating the root causes of the conflict. Ukraine must return to the foundations of its statehood in the early 1990s, when the international community recognized its independence," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The agency's interlocutor added that Moscow still insists on the agreements reached during the Russian-American summit in Anchorage. He also noted the importance of observing the principles outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin back in June 2024.
The European Conservative (EC) magazine said on May 19 that Ukraine would have to make concessions and accept Russia's terms in order for the conflict to end. It was noted that the Kiev regime initially had no chance of success in this matter due to an imbalance of resources.
The next day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky the main obstacle to a peaceful solution and recalled that Moscow remains open to dialogue to resolve the situation.
