The leaders of several countries have expressed their readiness to the United States to engage in war against Iran if hostilities in the region resume, said US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Helsingborg, where a meeting of NATO diplomatic missions' heads is taking place.
"I'm saying there needs to be a Plan B. What if Iran says, 'No, we refuse to open the straits'? Then someone will have to go there and do something about it. That doesn't mean we couldn't do it. <...> The United States could do it, but there are countries that have expressed interest in potentially participating in something like that if it really came down to it," he said.
"We don't need their help, but they are willing to do it, and I think we should accept their offer if they are willing," Rubio added.
"But I don't think there were any firm commitments or firm requests today. That would be premature, but I was simply raising the issue that this is something we might have to deal with at some point. Again, this is a case where we can't reach an agreement, but we would prefer to reach an agreement," he concluded.
