U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday (March 29) asserted that Iran is undergoing true "regime change", and that the country’s new leaders have been "very reasonable," Reuters reports.
“So I think we've had regime change, but you can't do much better than that. The regime that was really bad, really evil, was the first one that was done. The second was appointed, and they're gone. They're all dead other than one who may have a little life. And then they're really the third group, and the third group of people that seem to be much more reasonable. It truly is regime change. And regime change is an imperative, but I think we have it automatically,” Trump stated.
"Because the one regime was decimated, destroyed. They're all dead. The next regime is mostly dead. And the third regime, we're dealing with, different people than anybody's dealt with before," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route from Florida.
“We're ahead of schedule with Iran. We're weeks ahead of schedule," he added.
On February 28, an Israeli strike reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei. Trump reiterated that the leadership transition has involved new officials, marking a potential shift in U.S.-Iran relations.
