Huge explosions have been heard across Abu Dhabi as the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defense confirms it is "currently dealing with incoming missile and drone threats from Iran".
"The Ministry of Defense confirms that the sounds heard in scattered areas of the country are the result of the air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, and fighter jets intercepting drones and loitering munitions," the government department confirmed in a statement.
"UAE air defences are currently responding to incoming missile and drone threats from Iran MOD asserts that the sounds heard are the result of the Air Defence Systems intercepting missiles and drones."
Iranian strikes on UAE have so far claimed 78 casualties, the MoD said on Wednesday evening (March 4), via social media.
Abu Dhabi is one of the world's most visited holiday destinations. Bahrain is also reportedly under attack from Iran.
