Thursday’s US-Iran talks in Geneva, Switzerland ended without an agreement, as the two parties continue to disagree on key issues, The Wall Street Journal reports.
During the talks, US President Donald Trump's envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner announced that Iran must destroy its three main nuclear facilities: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Moreover, Tehran must hand over its remaining enriched uranium to the US.
Also, the US envoys stated that any nuclear agreement should be for an indefinite period, and not be suspended, as was the case with the nuclear agreement signed under former US President Barack Obama’s administration.
Iran, however, rejected the idea of transferring its uranium reserves abroad. Also, Tehran opposes a halt to its uranium enrichment, dismantling of its nuclear facilities, and permanent restrictions on its nuclear program.
Meanwhile, Oman’s foreign minister and a US representative said the parties had made progress and were likely to meet again for talks. The Omani representative said the technical expert-level talks would continue in Vienna next week.
