Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, the PM's Office said in a press release.
The Prime Minister congratulated Ambassador Shirgholami on assuming his post and emphasized the consistent development of relations with Iran.
Pashinyan noted that Armenia–Iran relations are currently experiencing unprecedented dynamics, which are also conditioned by the natural interests connecting the two countries. He expressed hope that during Ambassador Shirgholami’s tenure, the parties will succeed in further deepening and expanding cooperation in all areas.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude for the warm reception and conveyed to the Prime Minister the greetings of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Shirgholami highlighted the centuries-old close ties between the two peoples.
According to the Ambassador, Iran welcomes the peace-oriented policy of the Armenian Prime Minister, which contributes to regional development and progress.
The parties discussed issues related to Armenia–Iran cooperation in various fields and touched upon the progress of joint programs.
In the context of unblocking regional communication routes and promoting trade and economic relations, the sides emphasized the importance of steps aimed at ensuring railway communication between the two countries, which could become part of establishing broader regional connectivity.
